More than a third of the population in Tuvalu have applied for a visa to Australia – to escape rapidly rising sea levels.

The pacific island nation is home to 10,000 people and is one of the most at risk places in the world as a result of climate change. With no part of the island above six metres, at least 90% of Tuvalu is predicted to be underwater by 2100.
280 people are expected to win Australia’s lottery-style visa, which will grant them permanent residency on arrival and the right to work, access public healthcare and education.
