The EU’s Copernicus climate agency has said that last year was slightly cooler than 2024 but the last three years have been the warmest ever recorded.

It said that fossil fuel emissions are continuing to heat the planet and that unless they are reduced there will be more frequent extreme weather events.
The global average temperature last year was more than 1.4 degrees above "pre-industrial" levels before people started burning large amounts of fossil fuels.
