289 worker strapped in South Africa mine

Rescuers are trying to reach 289 miners who are trapped underground in South Africa.

The Kloof gold mine’s owners, Sibanye Stillwater, said the miners are safe and have gathered at an assembly point at a shaft which is located about 60km west of Johannesburg.

Mining accidents are not uncommon in South Africa, which has some of the world’s deepest and oldest gold mines.
