40 years since the closure of Cortonwood Colliery in South Yorkshire

It was on this day, in 1984 the National Coal Board announced the closure of Cortonwood Colliery in South Yorkshire.

This strike spread rapidly through the coal fields, polarised the country, and left a legacy in the former mining communities.
