8 skiers have been confirmed dead in an avalanche in Northern California.

An expedition party was caught in the incident near Lake Tahoe.

One person remains missing but is presumed dead.

Authorities are yet to recover the dead as near whiteout conditions mean the risk of further avalanches remains high.
