The US president, Joe Biden, and the UK prime minister, Rishi Sunak, on Thursday unveiled a new economic agreement between their countries, dubbed the ‘Atlantic declaration’. Speaking at a joint press conference, Sunak said it represented ‘a new economic partnership for a new age, unlike any agreement reached before’. The agreement, described as a series of mini-agreements rather than a comprehensive trade deal, aims to enhance security cooperation, regulate artificial intelligence, and reduce trade barriers.
Biden also praised the deal, stating that it would ‘equip our economic partnership for the 21st century’. He added: ‘We will engage in joint research and development to ensure that the future we are building remains fundamentally aligned with our values.’
