‘Absurd’ to leave fossil fuels in the North Sea untapped – Kemi Badenoch

The Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has said a Tory government would extract as much oil and gas from the North Sea as possible.

She is expected to announce the reversal of her party’s policy at a speech in Aberdeen on Tuesday and will say it is “absurd” to leave the fossil fuel resources untapped.

Successive Conservative leaders had previously backed a target of removing carbon emissions by 2050. And Theresa May enshrined that in her net zero law in 2019.
