‘Heartstopper’ star Bel Priestley on why the Supreme Court gender ruling is ‘really scary’ for transgender people
The actor and influencer Bel Priestly has told ITV News she feels ‘terrified’ after the Supreme Court said the term ‘woman’ referred to biological sex.
The landmark ruling could see transgender women excluded from single-sex spaces, like bathrooms and hospital wards.
Ms Priestly, who starred in the Netflix series ‘Heartstopper’, told ITV News she’d continue to use women’s bathrooms until it was explicitly banned in law.
She also spoke of her fears that the ruling could result in a rise in transgender-based hate crime.
The Supreme Court stressed that transgender people remain ‘vulnerable’ to discrimination when they delivered their verdict on Wednesday.
