A&E staff experienced record pressure in October - with NHS 'busier than ever' going into winter

A&E and ambulance staff faced more pressure this month than in any October on record, according to new figures from NHS England.

There were 2.36 million visits to emergency departments this October, which is the highest level on record for this time of year – and the third highest for any month since records began in August 2010.

Meanwhile, overall NHS waiting lists fell to 7.57 million cases in September, down from 7.64 million the previous month – a decrease of around 70,000.
