Iran’s Assembly of Experts has named Mojtaba Khamenei to replace his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as the country’s new supreme leader.
This comes as explosions are continuing to rock the Middle East this weekend, as the American-Israeli war on Iran and its allies entered its second week.
There has been a positive step forward for the so-called special relationship today, as President Trump and Sir Keir Starmer held talks about the conflict in the Middle East.
But if that war has thawed, the war in Iran has escalated, with Israeli and US strikes targeting oil supplies in Tehran and Iranian counter-drone strikes being scattered across the Gulf. Tonight, the US mourns its 7th casualty of the war so far.
