'Alice went into hospital to be kept safe, not to die', says Alice Figueiredo's mother

An NHS trust and a staff member have been found guilty of health and safety failings over the death of a young woman in a mental health unit.

Alice Figueiredo, 22, was a patient at Goodmayes Hospital, east London, when she took her own life in July 2015, after many similar attempts.

Both the North East London Foundation NHS Trust (NELFT) and ward manager Benjamin Aninakwa were cleared of manslaughter.

Alice’s mother, Jane Figueiredo, spoke outside court.
