Allen Morgan, 74, has been sentenced to a minimum term of 22 years after he was found guilty of conspiracy to murder his wife, Carol Morgan, in 1981.
After sentencing, police thanked those that gave evidence in the case, saying "the Crown Prosecution Service will prosecute offences however long ago they took place."
The senior investigating officer on the case described the sentencing as a "momentous end to a six-year investigation".
