Speaking to Reporter Lewis Denison, Chancellor John Healey accepted a 20% business rates cut alone will not be enough to reverse the trend of pub closures, after the Campaign for Real Ale said 794 have closed their doors so far this year.
Healey insisted the cut announced alongside Burnham in the first week of the new government "did give people some hope", but added: "It’s not going to guarantee their future, but it is going to give them just a bit of breathing space."
He said he and the PM "recognise the pressure that pubs and other businesses are on" and have a "desire to give businesses some breathing space from the pressures that they face". #politics @itvnews
