The release of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor under investigation means the case is "open-ended", a former chief constable of British Transport Police has told Sky News.
Andy Trotter said: "As far as release under investigation is concerned, this is potentially open-ended."
"The case will be reviewed – the College of Policing guidance is every 30 days – this is going to be a very, very long investigation of international inquiries."
By releasing Andrew in this way, Trotter added "police are not restricted to any time limits".
Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing in relation to the Epstein files.
