Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested this morning on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The former prince, who had been at the King’s Sandringham Estate celebrating his 66th birthday, is currently being held in police custody, Thames Valley Police said.
Andrew has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The offence is in the most serious category of criminal offences in England and Wales. It can be tried only on indictment, meaning that an individual must be tried by a judge and jury in the Crown Court. Misconduct in public office carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
Not since the reign of another Charles – King Charles I – has a senior member of the British Royal Family been held in custody. Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
