Anger over new sentencing guidelines that would consider ethnicity and faith

There’s been angry reaction to new sentencing guidelines, described by some as "two-tier sentencing" which recommend judges consider whether a criminal is from an ethnic, cultural or faith minority before issuing a punishment.

Industry Minister Sarah Jones told Sky’s Wilfred Frost, "the government doesn’t agree with that decision," which she said was made by the independent Sentencing Council.

She added that the justice secretary has asked them to look again at this recommendation, insisting "there has to be a single system of justice."
