Armed robbers have blown up a cash van on an Italian motorway, blowing off its roof and back doors in scenes echoing the cult movie The Italian Job.

The masked thieves, armed with Kalashnikovs, detonated the explosives on the main road between Lecce and Brindisi, before making their getaway, pursued by police.
Two men have been arrested, and police are searching for the rest of the gang.
