Officials are hoping that rain forecast for this weekend could douse the wildfires that have ravaged California in recent weeks, and have been reignited in the hills behind LA – though there are fears that the water could now bring mudslides instead.
The new President is flying there to see the damage for himself – but is likely to be met by scepticism and concern by Californians, after he suggested he could cut off disaster relief and cancelled a swathe of Biden administration climate policies.
