A devastating fire at a shoe factory in southern China has killed at least 28 people.
The blaze broke out on July 9th at the Huiteng Footwear factory in Jinjiang city.
It quickly engulfed the building trapping dozens of people inside. Jinjiang is known as the shoe capital of China and Huiteng is one of thousands of companies operating in the city.
Huiteng makes trainers for British brands Slazenger and HITEC, along with other international brands that are sold around the world.
It is the latest workplace disaster in China and will renew scrutiny of safety practices in the country’s massive manufacturing industry.
The head of Huiteng and several other staff members have been taken into custody and the company’s accounts have been frozen.
