Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has delivered a speech outlining the need to refresh the party’s policies.
Ms Badenoch stated that achieving the goal of net zero emissions by 2050 would inevitably result in a decline in living standards.
She criticised current policies on net zero and environmental impact, claiming they are "largely failing" to improve nature and are "driving up the cost of energy."
Badenoch emphasised: "The public has made it clear that the Conservative Party needs time away from government. Our task now is to use that time effectively, by being honest about the challenges of net zero."
