Bangladesh’s former prime minister Sheikh Hasina has been sentenced to death in absentia after she’s been found guilty of crimes against humanity by the International Crimes Tribunal.

She was sentenced alongside her former interior minister and the police chief. The prosecution described Hasina as the “mastermind” behind a deadly crackdown during student-led demonstrations last year where around 1,400 protesters were killed.
