A retired firefighter has told Sky News that basement fires are among the most difficult to tackle.
A basement with a single exit, as appears to be the case at Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, should only hold around 60 people, Steve Dudeney said.
But with a couple of hundred people said to be partying there on New Year’s Eve, he questions whether there were enough, or suitable, exits in place.
