Bashar al Assad releases first statement since fleeing Syria

Bashar al Assad, the former Syrian leader has released his first statement since being ousted.

He says that his departure from Syria was not planned nor did it occur during final hours of battle with rebels – and "at no point during these events" did he "consider stepping down or seeking refugee."
