When the Fundao dam collapsted in Eastern Brazil, it killed 19 people and sent vast amounts of toxic waste into the Doce River.
Now, exactly 10 years on, a British judge has ruled that the mining giant BHP can be held ‘strictly liable’ for the disaster.
The action was brought in a British court as the company was listed on the London Stock Exchange when the dam collapsed.
The ruling follows a legal action brought by six-hundred-thousand Brazilian people and a claim worth around thirty-six-billion pounds.
