‘Blood moon’ seen in rare lunar eclipse

Early risers across the UK were able to see a partial lunar eclipse before dawn this morning – known as a ‘blood moon’.

The phenomenon happens when the moon moves through the earth’s shadow – getting darker before turning a dusky red. Some people in western Europe and the US were able to see a total lunar eclipse.
