The news that the guns used in the Bondi attack were legally held has provoked debate about a new crackdown on gun ownership in Australia, which already has some of the toughest gun laws in the world.
It’s also emerged one of the attackers had been the focus of police attention before because of concerns about extremism.
But Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has rejected the accusations of Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu that the attack was linked to Australia recognising a Palestinian state.
