Evan Gershkovich and Paul Whelan have been freed as part of an ongoing prisoner exchange between Russia and the West, according to Turkish officials.
Russia has reportedly released the Wall Street Journal reporter and former US marine as part of what is speculated to be the biggest East-West prisoner swap since the Cold War.
More than a dozen others jailed by the Kremlin are in the process of being exchanged for Russians held in the US and Europe, including one who is a convicted murderer.
