Peter Mandelson has told Sky News he "regrets" meeting the convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Mr Mandelson, who is the UK’s ambassador to the US, was asked if he had stayed in Epstein’s Manhattan apartment in June 2009.
The New York financier was in jail at the time for soliciting prostitution of a minor.
"I’m not answering any questions about him," Mr Mandelson said in a response to the question from Sky’s James Matthews.
"My knowledge of him is something that I regret – I wish I’d never met him.
He added: "Why did many people meet him? He was a prolific networker, and I wish I had never met him in the first place."
Epstein committed suicide in a prison cell in 2019 as he awaited trial on sex trafficking charges.
