Briton Jimmy Lai found guilty of national security offences in Hong Kong

A pro-democracy campaigner could face a life sentence after being convicted of national security offences in Hong Kong.

Jimmy Lai is a British citizen and media tycoon who was arrested in 2020 after China imposed draconian new laws, following huge anti-government protests in the territory.

The Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper has condemned the prosecution, but the government is accused of not doing enough to secure the 78-year-old’s release.

Sky’s Asia Correspondent Helen-Ann Smith reports from Hong Kong.
