
Prime Minister Andy Burnham used his first speech at the UN General Assembly to announce the UK is setting up a centre to counter what he called the "poisonous tide" of online disinformation.
Burnham said Russia was spending more than £1 billion a year to "spread lies", including the use of bots, fake websites and falsified articles.
He described it as an "insidious campaign" to stoke division and sow despair.
