After expending vast numbers of missiles during Operation Epic Fury, the United States faces a pressing challenge: rebuilding critical weapons stockpiles. Germany’s Defense Minister Boris Pistorius believes he may have part of the solution: producing Tomahawk missiles in Germany.
As Pistorius meets US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in Washington, the proposal is being presented as a potential win-win. Germany would boost its defense capabilities and support its military buildup, while the United States could accelerate missile production and replenish inventories depleted by recent operations.
Could this become a new milestone in transatlantic defense cooperation?
In this video, we speak with DW’s Chief Political Correspondent Nina Haase, who is accompanying Pistorius during his visit to the United States, and with Ryan Brobst, Deputy Director of the Center on Military and Political Power at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, about the strategic, political and industrial implications of the proposal.
