Consumer champion Martin Lewis has urged those caught up in the car finance scandal not to pay a claims firm to recover their compensation.
The MoneySavingExpert said it was "very likely" that about 40% of Britons who entered personal contact purchase or hire purchase agreements between 2007 and 2021 will be eligible for payouts.
However, those payouts are likely to be for "hundreds, not thousands of pounds".
