Catholics pray for Pope Francis as his condition remains critical

There have been vigils and masses across the world as Catholics pray for Pope Francis who’s still in a critical condition in hospital although – according to a Vatican spokesman this evening – he’s had ‘no further respiratory crises’.

The pontiff asked an Archbishop to read out a message on his behalf earlier, in which he thanked healthcare staff looking after him and reflected on world events.
