Footage from the capital captured the lights turning on in buildings at 2146 local time (1946 GMT), with the sound of people cheering and clapping in celebration. In an evening address, Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez said Spain’s grid operator had restored electricity supplies to about half of the country.
