China has launched its most extensive and closest military drills around Taiwan — mobilizing naval, air and ground forces. Beijing says the exercises are intended to simulate a blockade of the self-ruled island’s key ports, as well as strikes on land and maritime targets. Taipei calls it ‘military intimidation’.
