The managing editor of Al Jazeera, Mohamed Moawad, paid tribute to cameraman Mohammed Salama and said he was one of a group of journalists "trying to get some footage of the area," at the time he was killed.
"They were reporting closer to the hospital, knowing that was somehow safer than the frontline," he said.
"We’re talking about a crime against journalism," Moawad added.
