Rachel Reeves has spoken for the first time since crying in Parliament on Wednesday, saying "when I’m having a tough day it’s on the telly".
The chancellor said it was a "personal issue" that left her in tears on the front bench, accepting "clearly I was upset yesterday – everyone could see that".
Speaking after a surprise appearance as Labour launched their NHS health plan, Reeves defended her decision to appear at Prime Minister’s Questions while upset.
She denied her crying was connected to a reported argument with the speaker or other people in the government after the eleventh-hour climbdown on welfare cuts, insisting "it was a personal issue".
