Climate protection at any price? – the green race for Africa | DW Reporter

The carbon credits market is booming; Europeans are investing in CO₂ offset projects in Africa. How are these impacting people there?
In Sierra Leone, fisher Robinson waits in vain to earn an income from a carbon project that has robbed him of his livelihood. In Uganda, villager Bamba was apparently mistreated by forest rangers and forced off the land where his family has lived for generations. In Kenya, a US climate protection project in the Maasai region is dividing the community between elders who were promised prosperity, and a younger generation who fear for their future and their culture.
The research for this report was made possible with grants from the European Journalism Centre and from Jamma Conservation and Communities. The donors had no influence on editorial content.
