Allies should "take down" Russia’s economy and step-up military support for Ukraine to ensure victory over the Kremlin, a former Nato senior commander has said.

Sir Richard Shirreff, formerly Nato’s deputy commander in Europe, said allies needed to bolster Ukraine’s dwindling missile interceptor supplies and impose severe economic measures on Russia.
This would deliver a “catastrophic shock” and force Putin to accept a ceasefire, Sir Richard said.
