The Conservatives have demanded the publication of details of the vetting process that preceeded the appointment of Peter Mandelson as the UK’s ambassador to the United States.

Lord Mandelson was sacked yesterday after emails emerged in which he offered support to Jeffrey Epstein as he faced jail for child sex offences.
Emails published on Wednesday included passages in which Lord Mandelson told Epstein to “fight for early release” shortly before he was jailed for 18 months.
