Contaminated baby formula recalled after toxin discovered

The food safety watchdog is warning parents in the UK to avoid contaminated baby formula after a batch of Aptamil First Infant Formula, made by food giant Danone, was recalled after the toxin cereulide was found in the product.

The Food Standards Agency has confirmed that the contamination originated from a third-party ingredient supplier.

The same supplier is also linked to a recall by Nestlé earlier this month.

It recalled some of its baby formula products over concerns that they could contain the toxin, which can cause vomiting and stomach cramps and is unlikely to be destroyed by cooking.
