Convicted murderer set to become first American executed with nitrogen gas

A convicted murderer on death row in Alabama is set to become the first American to be executed with nitrogen gas.

Kenneth Eugene Smith’s lawyers tried to appeal to the US Supreme Court – calling it a "cruel and unusual punishment". But justices declined to put a stop to it. Smith has already survived one botched execution in 2022. And tonight his lawyers have made a final, last ditch bid to halt this second attempt.
