The US has spent $11.3bn on 5,500 military strikes in just the first six days of the war. President Trump says Iran has been totally destroyed, but Iran is still doing low-cost drone and mine attacks towards its neighbours in the Persian Gulf.
This small but steady warfare has effectively stopped cargo ships from crossing the vital Strait of Hormuz, which connects Iran and the countries of the gulf to the rest of the world. That means oil and gas can’t move, threatening to spike global oil prices and turning the conflict into a grueling war of financial attrition.
American losses are very few, but many have been injured, and IS military chiefs now face a "firepower paradox" where high-tech defenses cost ten times more to deploy than the cheap drones they are meant to stop.
Is this how Iran, despite being vastly overpowered, can find a way to win this war?
