
The Jodrell Bank Observatory, which has housed the UK’s largest telescope for nearly 70 years, has lost its funding, leaving it facing an uncertain future.
The deep-space observatory in Cheshire runs a world-leading network of radio telescopes and hosts the Grade I-listed Lovell telescope.
The funding body, the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) agency, said it had to focus investment on the "greatest long-term scientific capability and value."
