170,000 students and graduates are seeking damages after University College London agreed a settlement at the weekend with the Student Claim Group, which is representing them.
It comes as the UK’s Covid inquiry begins its final stage.
Evidence is being taken on the impact of the pandemic on society including homeless people and victims of domestic abuse, as well as the key workers who had to keep on working.
Families affected have described it as a "huge moment".
