A High Court judge has ordered the company linked to Tory peer Michelle Mone, must repay the government almost £122 million for breaching a contract to supply 25 million surgical gowns during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) sued PPE Medpro, saying the company had provided 25 million “faulty” gowns that were not sterile and therefore could not be used.

The company, a consortium led by Lady Mone’s husband, businessman Doug Barrowman, was awarded government contracts by the former Conservative administration to supply PPE during the pandemic, after she recommended it to ministers.

Ricky Hatton’s son Campbell says his family have been "hit for six" and left "heartbroken" by his father’s sudden death.

But Campbell, who is 24 and a former professional boxer himself, also said the Hatton family had been overwhelmed by what he called the "outpouring of support" from the public since his father died, aged 46.

Former two-weight world boxing champion Ricky Hatton was found dead at his home in Hyde on 14 September. No cause of his death has yet been announced.

A market trader who groomed and raped two schoolgirls in Rochdale has been jailed for 35 years.

Mohammed Zahid, 65, known as Boss Man, gave free underwear from his lingerie stall at Rochdale Indoor Market to both teenagers, with money, alcohol and food, in return for the expectation of regular sex with him and his friends.

The father-of-three was one of seven Asian men convicted in June, by a jury at Manchester Minshull Street Court, of committing various sexual offences against the girls between 2001 and 2006.

Zahid and six other men, who were part of the gang, were jailed for a total of 174 years.
