Crans-Montana fire likely started by sparkling flares too near to ceiling, say officials | DW News

Officials in Switzerland say a fire that killed at least 40 people on New Year’s Eve was probably started by sparkling flares held too close to the ceiling. Investigators have begun identifying the victims of the blaze that swept through a crowded bar in the town of Crans-Montana. More than a hundred people are in hospital, with at least 80 in critical condition.
