Critical Florida corals now ‘functionally extinct’

Elkhorn and staghorn corals are now “functionally extinct” in Florida’s reef system after record-breaking ocean temperatures, according to a study led by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Coral Reef Watch and Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium.
