Deadliest Channel migrant tragedy was 'preventable' inquiry finds

A public inquiry into the deadliest Channel crossing on record has ended with the familiess saying discrimination was key to the failure to rescue their loved ones.

At least 27 people drowned when their dinghy capsized one night in November 2021. Three are still missing and just two survived.

The inquiry heard that the Border Force didn’t have the resources to deal with the scale of search and rescue operations that night. It was more than 10 hours before any vessel came to their aid and that was a French fishing boat.
