Defense Secretary John Healey will announce new arms factories following questions raised around the UK’s ability to defend itself.
The Government is committed to building at least six new munitions and energetics factories before the next election, creating at least 1,000 jobs.
So far 13 sites across the UK have been identified for new factories, include Grangemouth in Scotland, Teesside in north-east England and Milford Haven in Wales.
Healey will discuss how this “new era of threat” presents an economic opportunity for the UK with the arms industry expected to break ground at the first plant next year.
This comes after MI5 issued a warning on Tuesday to MPs over suspected Chinese espionage via recruitment headhunters.
